Maitri Network Project 2016–2019 – combating violence against women

Full Budget: € 227,000.
Grant from BMZ (German ministry for development): € 167,000,
Karuna Trust contribution: € 33,300, Karuna Germany contribution: € 26,700.

The Maitri Network is a group of Indian organisations who met as project partners of Karuna Trust UK funded projects. Since 2009 the partners meet on a regular basis to coordinate activities, support each other and for capacity building training.

The project aim is to build a strong Dalit and Adivasi women’s movement with the skills and capacities to challenge all forms of violence against women. The Maitri network of women’s organisations will be strengthened and enlarged. The capacities of women’s organisations to work effectively for gender equality will be built. Thus the CBOs become capable to counteract violence against women and to support individual victims of gender based violence more effectively. One objective is to improve gender relations and justice mechanisms by sensitising men and key stakeholders in the police and the judicial system.
